Several Quakertown Community High School students are being recognized by organizations for producing outstanding works of art.

“There’s just so much to celebrate,” said Digital Art teacher Amy Migliore. “Juried opinions from outside the school have seen the talent we have here and our students compete well with their peers across the state. It’s important for them to gain accolades outside of Quakertown.”

Five students - seniors Kristy Nguyen, Mary Barbour, Felix O’Donnell, Bonnie Gendeloff, and junior Stephanie Jaxheimer - have received recognition from Scholastic Art Competition, “the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens,” according to its website. As part of the Philadelphia Region, awards range from gold, silver and honorable mention.

Kristy is in the running for a nation award as a gold key winner for two paintings. Mary earned a silver award for each of her two photographs. Felix also earned a silver for his portfolio. For mixed media coverage, Bonnie and Stephanie each earned an honorable mention.

The district’s art department chose the work of Aspyn Braun, a senior, to represent QCSD at the Bucks County Student Art Gallery Reception at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit on March 29 at 5 p.m.

Fourteen students also entered the Hope and Healing Juried Art Show, a regional art competition in which 12 high schools and colleges participated. Four of 17 honor awards went to QCHS students. Each student received recognition and a cash prize. The students are Mary Barbour (two pieces), Tanner Clancy and Brenna Mott.

Their work can be seen through April 30 at The Banana Factory, 25 W. 3rd Street, Bethlehem.
