Senior Nina Liddington inspired the event where students learned about other cultures and “shared parts of themselves with others.”

Quakertown Community High School recently held a Multicultural Day, where students showcased aspects of the different cultures they belong to. The idea was the inspiration of senior Nina Liddington, who led the effort to have tables set up in the gymnasium.
Social Studies classes visited throughout the day, and students had the opportunity to learn about the diverse cultures represented by our student body through clothing, food, music, games, and crafts.
“It was a great opportunity for minorities within our school to have a voice, and for students to learn about other cultures for the sake of learning, to educate themselves, and to share parts of themselves with others,” Nina said. “It went really well. I’ve been getting consistently positive feedback.”
Approximately 25 tables were set up in the lower gymnasium representing Asian, Latin American, African, and European cultures.
Nina said teachers Alaina Wert and Bethany Fuller helped her organize the event. “I can't thank them enough,” she said.
Mrs. Wert said the day “was a huge success thanks to the planning and execution of Nina Liddington. Nina wanted to find a way to share more about the many ethnicities represented in our school and she organized the perfect day. I have received many positive comments about the day from both staff and students. It was an amazing experience for us all.”
Mrs. Fuller said Nina “pitched it to our school's administrative team, worked with them to establish a date and time, and then she found students willing to showcase their cultures. Students attending the event with their social studies classes expressed surprise and delight at the number of other cultures represented in our school population. They especially enjoyed the food - always an exciting entrance into learning about culture!”
As she’ll be graduating in June, Nina hopes another student continues what she started and turn Multicultural Day into a positive tradition.
“I’m hoping someone is willing to do the organizing when I’m gone,” she said.
